The Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Michelle Donelan, has appointed Professor Charlotte Deaneas the new Executive Chair of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Prof Gesine Reinert has been awarded the 2024 Bernoulli prize for an Outstanding Survey Article in Probability by the Bernoulli Society  alongside her co-authors Christophe Ley and Yvik Swan.

Backed by over £15 million funding, the University of Oxford is establishing a new Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) that will combine the university’s strengths in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, Big Data, and environmental sciences.

We are delighted to announce that one of our third-year DPhil Students, Vik Shirvaikar, is one of the new 2023-24 MPLS Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Fellows.

DPhil student Arun Raja has been awarded the National University of Singapore (NUS) Development Grant Award, based on the recommendation of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, NUS, and will be accorded the title 'Young NUS Fellow'.

The Department has been granted an Athena Swan Silver Award, reflecting the collective efforts made over the intervening years to work towards greater gender and intersectional equality. 

The Oxford University Statistical Consulting team attended the Royal Statistical Society Conference in Harrogate (4-7 September 2023). In addition to attending many interesting talks, they had the opportunity to organise and participate in two invited sessions. Mariagrazia Zottoli and Cora Mezger gave a talk on the work they are doing with OxUSC, and the challenges and rewards of providing statistical consultancy in an academic setting.

Edwin Fong has received the 2022 Savage Award from the International Society for Bayesian Analysis for his DPhil thesis The predictive view of Bayesian inference.

Dr Oliver Crook has been announced as the winner of the 2023 Young Biometrician Award for his paper “Semi-Supervised Nonparametric Bayesian Modelling of Spatial Proteomics” (The Annals of Applied Statistics, 2022).
