Florence Nightingale Bicentenary Fellow
The Department of Statistics is recruiting for two Florence Nightingale Bicentenary Fellows in Statistics. These are career development positions intended to carry around half the teaching load of an ordinary Oxford faculty position. The successful candidates would be expected to take up their role by 1 September 2025 at the latest. Funding for research costs of £2,000 per year will be available.
The successful candidates will hold a doctorate in the field of statistics or a related subject. The Department seeks candidates with interests in any field of Statistical research, which integrate well with research by current members of the department. We aim to hire two candidates who can teach computational statistics and advanced simulation topics or other mainstream topics in statistics. All successful candidates will be outstanding individuals who have the potential to become leaders in their field. They will have the skills and enthusiasm to teach at undergraduate and graduate level within the Department of Statistics, to provide pastoral care to students, and to supervise MSc student projects. They will carry out and publish original research.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join a research project funded by Oxford Martin School and led by Professors Christl Donnelly and Moritz Kraemer.
The successful candidate will be a member of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research on the analysis of digitally collected data for epidemiological inference and monitoring of transmission during epidemic, reporting to Professors Christl Donnelly and Moritz Kraemer. The post holder will provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants and DPhil students.
Applicants will have, or be close to completing a PhD in in a relevant field such as statistics, biostatistics, infectious disease epidemiology, epidemic modelling. They will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.

Salary: Research Grade 8, £40,855 - £46,913 per annum.

Glasstone Research Fellowship in Statistics
This prestigious post is a three-year postdoctoral fellowship and is supported by the Glasstone Bequest, which was set up to encourage scientists at an early stage of their career to follow their research interests at Oxford, one of the world’s leading science universities. Preference will be given to candidates who are at an early stage in their research career and who have not already held an independent fellowship.
Applications are especially welcome from women and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Oxford.
Applicants must hold a PhD/DPhil in statistics or a related subject awarded by the closing date for applications. Preference will be given to candidates at an early stage in their research career and who have not already held a substantive independent fellowship.

I think the best thing about my department is being able to work in offices and share ideas with others in a very communal setting. I find that the department is very good at encouraging communication between other grad students and postdocs and that there is a very real sense of community here.
