Prof Christl Donnelly, Head of the Department of Statistics, was honored by Oberlin College and Conservatory on Monday 22nd May 2023, with an Honorary Doctor of Science degree. This prestigious recognition celebrates her contributions to the field of statistics and her dedication to advancing public health.

Accompanying Prof Donnelly were other distinguished individuals who also received honorary degrees during the commencement ceremony:

  • Richard Powers, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author - Honorary Doctor of Humanities
  • Tommie Smith, Activist and Olympic Gold Medallist - Honorary Doctor of Humanities
  • Major Joe Womack, Africatown Leader and Activist - Honorary Doctor of Humanities

In accepting this honor and acknowledging the formative influences of Oberlin on her life, Prof Donnelly expressed her gratitude to Oberlin for the recognition and reiterated her commitment to leveraging statistical methods to improve public health worldwide.
