The Department of Statistics is delighted to announce that Head of Department, Professor Christl Donnelly, has been awarded a Visiting Miller Professorship at the University of California, Berkeley for spring 2026. This esteemed award recognises promising and eminent scientists, bringing them to Berkeley for collaborative research within the Miller Institute's interdisciplinary community. Professor Donnelly’s appointment will run from January to May 2026.
During her tenure at Berkeley, Professor Donnelly will collaborate with a range of distinguished academics, including Professor Mike Boots (Department of Integrative Biology), Professor Nicholas Jewell (UC Berkeley School of Public Health), Professor George Roderick (UC Berkeley Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management), Professor John Marshall (UC Berkeley School Public Health), and Professor Joseph Lewnard (UC Berkeley School of Public Health). These collaborations promise to foster impactful interdisciplinary research and expand the reach of her work.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Professor Donnelly said: “I am honoured to have been offered this Visiting Miller Professorship. The chance to work alongside such an outstanding group of interdisciplinary researchers at Berkeley is truly exciting. I look forward to the many collaborative opportunities this appointment will bring.”
The Miller Institute Visiting Professorship programme emphasises in-residence participation, ensuring that appointees actively engage with the Berkeley academic community through research interactions and public talks or colloquia. This residency requirement encourages rich exchanges of ideas within the Miller Institute’s vibrant intellectual environment.
In a parallel achievement, Professor Alain Goriely from the University of Oxford’s Mathematical Institute has also been offered a Visiting Miller Professorship at UC Berkeley for the same term. Reflecting on this shared milestone, Professor Goriely commented: “It’s a privilege to join the Miller Institute alongside Professor Donnelly. I look forward to collaborating with Berkeley’s exceptional researchers and contributing to the interdisciplinary discourse the Institute fosters.”
