Dr Tara Trauthwein, a postdoctoral research associate working on probability theory in the Department of Statistics, has been awarded the 2025 Rolf Tarrach Award for her doctoral thesis. The award recognises the best PhD dissertation defended at the University of Luxembourg each year.

Dr Trauthwein said: ‘I'm very honoured and happy to win this award, and I am truly grateful to my supervisor Prof. Giovanni Peccati and all the people who have supported me in my career. I wouldn't be where I am today without them.’

Dr Trauthwein completed her PhD in 2023 under the supervision of Professor Giovanni Peccati at the University of Luxembourg. Her work developed new mathematical methods for Poisson point process related quantities like graph models, which can have applications ranging from social networks to complex data structures. The bulk of her thesis, entitled "Quantitative CLTs on the Poisson space via Skorohod estimates and p-Poincaré inequalities," was published in the Annals of Applied Probability.

Professor Peccati said: ‘These groundbreaking contributions will for sure have a strong impact on probability theory for decades.’

Dr Trauthwein is currently working with Professor Gesine Reinert's team in the Department of Statistics. She will be moving to the University of Münster in October as a Postdoctoral Research Associate within the Mathematics Excellence Cluster.

The award was presented on 9 July 2025 in Luxembourg City.
