Housekeeping - Shower Facilities
Please remove *all* items when you leave the shower cubicle - these are shared facilities and as such, for many reasons including hygiene and ease of cleaning, nothing should be left – this includes items such as damp towels and shampoo/shower gel. Any unattended items may be removed or discarded as required/without notice. Also please rinse after use and leave it as you would wish to find it.

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology: best student publication prize winner
Matt Penn has won the Lee A. Segel Prize for Best Student Publication for his paper "Asymptotic Analysis of Optimal Vaccination Policies", co-authored with Professor Christl Donnelly. This paper examines the behaviour of the best possible distribution of vaccines to a population, using rigorous mathematical analysis to find the leading order solutions to the problems in two special parameter cases. Analysis like this helps provide a foundation for understanding and explaining how vaccines may be most effectively used in different epidemics.
You can read the paper online, through the Springer website.
Congratulations, Matt!

AI Teaching and Learning Exploratory Fund: call for applications
The objective of the AI Teaching and Learning Exploratory Fund is to support projects that explore how AI could be used within teaching and learning contexts at Oxford. It aims to:
- explore and promote innovative AI applications in teaching and learning, and academic administration
- ensure ethical and academically sound AI usage
- reflect the Russell Group principles on use of AI in education in the collegiate University context.
In 2024-25, eight to 10 projects will receive support through the fund. Support will be in the form of expertise and technical resources from specialists at the Competency Centre, rather than financial support.

For Researchers
Explore New Horizons in Research with Cloud Computing
Where Can the Cloud Take Your Research?
Cloud computing has become a cornerstone of modern technology, seamlessly supporting everything from everyday applications to complex data analyses. At Oxford, this technology is not just supporting but transforming research. Dr. Hanayik, in collaboration with the University’s Cloud Computing for Research Competency Centre, has utilized cloud solutions to scale neuroimaging analysis software, enhancing research capabilities significantly.
Introducing FSL Clinical Our Analysis Group has developed FSL Clinical, an extension of the FSL research software used globally in MRI analysis. This new platform, supported by cloud infrastructure, is designed to make advanced diagnostics accessible and efficient, providing clinicians with tools to make quicker, more informed decisions without the need for extensive technical infrastructure.
Your Research, Powered by Cloud Imagine having the flexibility to scale your research projects on demand, access cutting-edge tools, and collaborate globally without the constraints of physical infrastructure. That’s the promise of cloud computing. With the guidance and support of our Competency Centre, led by experts like Dr. Ansar Rafique, our researchers can focus on what they do best – innovating and pushing the boundaries of knowledge.
Get Involved The Cloud Computing for Research Competency Centre is ready to assist you in exploring how cloud computing can enhance your research. To discover more about these opportunities, or to start a conversation about your project, reach out to the Competency Centre team today.
