Dr Elena Sabbioni

Postdoctoral Researcher

About Me

After completing both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics at the University of Trento (Italy), I have done a PhD in statistics at the Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy). My doctoral research primarily focused on Bayesian statistics applied to scRNA-seq data for estimating RNA velocity. Additionally, I worked on statistical tests for high-dimensional semicontinuous data and chemical reaction networks. During my PhD, I also spent a research period in Catalina Vallejos’s Lab at the University of Edinburgh, where I worked on survival analysis and investigated the impact of delayed diagnosis on survival outcomes. Here in Oxford, I am a member of the Pioneer Centre for SMARTbiomed and of the Department of Statistics, working under the supervision of Professor Peter Visscher and Professor Pier Palamara.

Dr Gavin Kerrigan

Postdoctoral Researcher

About Me

I'm a postdoctoral research assistant working on machine learning in the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford, where I am fortunate to be supervised by Tom Rainforth. Previously, I completed my PhD in the Department of Computer Science with Padhraic Smyth at the University of California, Irvine.

Research Interests

I am broadly interested in problems in the intersection of applied mathematics and probabilistic machine learning, as well as applications in scientific machine learning. Some of my previous work ranges from function-space generative modeling and optimal transport to applications in climate science.
