Checks using older R-devel with

setenv _R_CHECK_LENGTH_1_LOGIC2_ "abort,verbose"

showing

'length > 1 in coercion to logical'

issues (from using || or &&) in a package other than the package under test.

'the condition has length > 1' now always gives an error in R 4.2.0
and later.  These versbose reports may still be reproducible in R 4.1.3 by
setting that environmental variable.
