How to get there

The best way to reach the hotel by public transport is via the railway station in Groningen, where you can take the bus to the hotel. There is an excellent rail connection between the airport of Amsterdam ('Schiphol') and Groningen.

It is easy to buy train tickets at the railway station in Schiphol airport (second class single ticket Euro 23.00) and there is a helpful railway information point.
There is a direct train from Schiphol to Groningen every hour at xx.19, and in between at xx.49 there is a connection where you have to change trains in Amersfoort. This train connection takes about two and a half hours. If you take this train (either of these connections), you should know that it consists of two parts, which are split in Zwolle (the first station after Amersfoort). The front part goes to Groningen, the rear part to Leeuwarden. Make sure that on leaving Zwolle you are in the part going to Groningen.
The leg Schiphol - Amersfoort takes about 50 minutes, Amersfoort - Zwolle 40 minutes, Zwolle - Groningen one hour.

From the railway station in Groningen you take bus number 2 (bus company Qbuzz) in the direction De Punt. Your destination is Familiehotel Paterswolde. When you exit the station, with your back to the main station entrance, the bus station is to your right. Bus number 2 is at platform X, at the far end. The bus departs twice each hour, at xx.03 and xx.33. You can buy tickets in the bus. Ask the driver to drop you off at bus stop Familiehotel and to announce the stop. The bus ride is about 20 minutes.

If you come by car, you will see on the map that Paterswolde is very close to the A28 road connecting Groningen to the south.

The surroundings

On Wednesday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday, you will have bicycles available from the hotel to explore the surroundings and/or go to Groningen.

The hotel is located in the village of Eelde/Paterswolde (really a combination of two villages). The hotel is in Paterswolde, close to the Paterswoldsemeer, a lake with nice recreational opportunities (sailing, swimming, etc.). Eelde is the location of the small airport of Groningen.

If you like outdoor walking, there is the old country estate De Braak (also excellent for early morning running), less than one kilometer south of the hotel (just follow the Hoofdweg in a southerly direction, then it is at your right-hand side when the road bends to the left); and the wetlands Friescheveen (go south along the Hoofdweg, take the first road to your left which is the Meerweg; after half a mile or so at your right-hand side there is cafe Friescheveen, and behind the cafe you can cross a little bridge to Friescheveen).

In Eelde is the very nice museum De Buitenplaats which shows figurative art created after 1945. It is easily reachable by bike.
