Biographical sketch

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Experimental Statistics Laboratory with Dr Rory Bowden, working on a collaborative project characterising vaccine escape strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae.  Prior to joining the laboratory, I worked with Dr Lars Jermiin at the Bioinformatics Laboratory at the University of Sydney on the analysis of gap placement during multiple sequence alignment.  My educational background combined bioinformatics with experimental work; I followed an honours degree in Biology/Computer Science with a PhD in molecular plant pathology, working on the vascular wilt pathogen Fusarium oxysporum with Dr Bruce Lyon and Dr Jenny Saleeba the University of Sydney.

Research interests

Microbial genomics; high-throughput sequencing techniques, sequence alignment, host-pathogen interactions, molecular basis of pathogenicity

About my research

My current project involves analysing genetic diversity of S. penumoniae vaccine escape strain genomes, using high-throughput resequencing techniques.  I am generally interested in microbial genomes, particularly with regard to pathogenicity
