Biographical sketch
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Experimental Statistics Laboratory of Dr Rory Bowden, which is a part of the UK CRC Modernizing Medical Microbiology Consortium. Before joining the lab I completed a PhD at the Ural State University, Ekaterinburg, Russia on biology and ecology of wood-destroying fungi. After that I gained experience in molecular biology in the Dr Dmitry Filatov’s laboratory at the University of Birmingham. I also worked with Dr Filatov at the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford on evolution of sex chromosomes and population genetics of smut fungus Microbotrium violaceum. Since February 2010, I joined the Experimental Statistics Laboratory, working on a collaborative project to understand biology, epidemiology and transmission routes of human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus using experimental work and whole genome data.
Research interests
Bacterial genetics and molecular biology, evolutionary biology, epidemiology, population genetics, mycology, fungal and plant ecology.
About my research
My current project involves genetic study of S. aureus carriage in communities and hospitals with focus on multiple strain colonization of individual carriers, which will help us to understand transmission routes and evolution of the pathogen. I am also interested in genetic variations of virulence genes in bacteria.
