To help with selecting a server, some quick examples might help:

A small job requiring in total 8 GB of memory and 2 CPU cores to run, and very little disk space.  This should comfortably fit within the one third capacity rule on blackbird. On checking blackbird you find it has free capacity (please see here and here for how to check) and so you use blackbird.

A medium size job requiring 40 GB of memory and 4 CPU cores to run, and 1 TB of disk space.  This is too large for blackbird, but could run on either blackgull or blackgoose if not already too busy with other work.

Since blackbird can be booked, to avoid loss of smaller jobs when usage changes, please do not run jobs for more than 24 hours on blackbird and monitor the online booking calendar (internal Stats access only) for details of upcoming bookings.
